Because you don't need to be tech-savvy to make life a little easier.
Whether you're caring for a parent, partner, sibling, or friend β you're already doing one of the most complex, emotional, and essential jobs out there. And while tech can't take away the tough stuff, it can make it more manageable.
This guide is for carers who don't consider themselves "techy," but are open to tools that can lighten the load β without making life harder.
Let's get started.
1. Use What You Already Know
You don't need fancy equipment. If you already use:
WhatsApp or text to stay in touch
Google Calendar to track appointments
Phone notes or sticky notes to remember tasks
β¦congratulations! You're already using tech in care. The key is to bring more intention to it.
Create a shared WhatsApp group for your care circle or sync a calendar to keep everyone in the loop.
2. Involve Your Loved One Gently
Sometimes the person you're caring for resists change. Maybe they're afraid of technology. Maybe they feel like it's "too late" to learn.
Here's what you can say:
"This isn't about replacing me β it's about making things easier for both of us."
"Let's try it once and see how it feels. If it doesn't work, we'll stop."
Start small. Go slow. Celebrate little wins β even just opening an app.
3. Choose Tech That's Simple and Familiar
Look for tools that:
Work in places you already use (like WhatsApp)
Don't require logins or complex setup
Offer voice or visual options for accessibility
